there are different types of line finders..we used ones that you had a transmitter put on top of the ground where you knew the pipe was and then the receiver that you used to locate the pipe..we then had probe bars to make sure the finder was on... the other type line finder i liked best was one that you hooked up to a pipe to soil reading station or to the pipe, then use receiver to find pipe grab probe bar and make sure.. this one has worked for up to 4 miles from transmitter..this was where there was just one line in the r.o.w...we located lines from 30 inch to lines as small a 1 inch... the 30 inch goes around the beltway 8 in houston tx...
