If there are fewer buyers with less money in their pockets, the price goes down.
Be careful what you ask for, a depression would bring the prices right down.
On the other hand, if the greens and congress would let us drill off Florida and California, If we had started drilling in ANWR four years ago, or if the big reserves in the Dakotas play out, there would be more supply driving prices down and less money leaving the country, strengthening the dollar.
This isn't a good guy, bad guy problem. This is the result of normal markets compounded by some poor decission.
