Jiles I can only remember gas being as cheap as 39.9 cents a gallon. I had to be about 10 so that would have been mid seventies. I am sure dad was probably making about $4 bucks an hour back in those days. He retired a couple of years ago making $30 plus. So his wages went up and so the gas is still in synch with his wages. I think we all have a lot of leeway in our wages to buy gas. I think of it as a very important item so I can drop a lot of uneccessary items from my budget and still have plenty of money for gas. We get paid a lot of money in this country and we like to waste a lot of money because of this. If a mexican immigrant makes $2000 dollars a year in Mexico and comes to the USA and makes $10,000 his first year he is making 5 times the money he is used to and thinking he is in heaven. Try to pay an American $10,000 and they lose their minds. Difference is they have nothing and nothing to lose. We have buried ourselves in everything and are always stressing trying to maintain that. Not picking on you but how many Mexicans do you think own a Backhoe, two tractors, and an Kubota RTV over in Mexico or people in China? I am not worried about the cost of diesel and gas because I work very hard at a good job and live on much less than I make. My parents drilled that in my head and it works. I am a big Dave Ramsey fan and I live by his philosophy and it works great. Live like no other so some day you can live like no other. I would live in a cardboard box for a year if it would save me from spending $12,000 dollars a year on mortgage interest. I would rather see thousands of well maintained shanties with people with lots of money in them not stealing from me than a bunch of $300,000 dollar houses with forclosure signs hanging from them because the people that built them are idiots. Oh, and don't even get me going on bankruptcy scam that shouldn't be allowed to be happening!

Today's Featured Article - Hydraulic Basics - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In the last entry to this series we gave a brief overview of hydraulic system theory, its basic components and how it works. Now lets take a look at some general maintenance tips that will keep our system operating to its fullest potential. The two biggest enemies to a hydraulic system are dirt and water.
