I would start by checking for a fuel system restriction, all the way from the tank, through the fuel pump, and into the float bowl.
If there is no fuel restriction, other possibilities are bad condensor, bad coil, bad ignition switch, or the circuit breaker tripping for some reason... check it's terminals and the push-on connectors for rust and corrosion.
If you NEED an ignition coil, get a genuine Kohler, or equivalent. The breaker point dwell characteristics of this engine are enough different than those of a typical automobile ignition system that an automotive coil will run HOTTER, and also wear the points more rapidly than the CORRECT coil.
