Dad and grandpa ran a 60 and 720 diesel for years, like you say it was easy on fuel. Really nice planter and JD is straight as an arrow, bet its a descent load though, running that fan plus pulling eight rows. Happy planting.
I bought the planter at an auction 3 years ago and was thinking the same thing, that maybe it might be to much planter for the tractor. But I thought I would try it and it did fine, not short of power at all. The duals help carry it over the loose soil and roll easier. The hyd pump for the fan doesn't take any power at all, so that wasn't an issue. I really was surprised that it handled it that well.
