I recall years ago when we were on 38 inch rows it was not unheard of to have bean plants with 60-70 pods per plant and three beans in every pod. Now my question. 150,000 seeds at 90% germ is 135,000 plants with 60 pods at three beans per pod comes to 24,300,000 bean plants per acre. 3200 beans per lb is 7,593 lbs per acre divided by 60 is 126 bushel per acre. Are all of the combines still losing that many beans today or just the Gred ones?
Where do the beans go? Corn seems to work out better at 24,000 with a one-half lb. ear nets 12,000 lbs per acre divided by 56 is 214. That works.
