Rod: I'll not argue the exact date, just don't remember. I know it was very near 1970 when I got the ticket.
The no expiry plate was in force when I bought my 1066 in 75. Again in 1976 when I bought a John Deere 540A forestry skidder and wanted to register it as a farm tractor. I went to the registry office with documents. The John Deere 540A was 10 months old, had been out on lease and registered as GT. The supervisor in charge tried to tell me, it had to be registered as GT. I said, "GT is no good to me, I can't tow implements using GT plates." It must have taken him the better part of an hour to make that decission. His reasoning, "we can't call it a tractor, it's not manufactured as such." I said, "It's built by John Deere, has the same engine, transmission, rear ends, hydraulic pump and chassis as some John Deere tractors. It is nothing more than a forestry tractor." He finally gave in, but no willingly.
Three years later I encountered the same with MF-550 combine. GP lisence would not allow me to tow 15' header behind on cart. Same fight all over again.

Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
