Yes as Aaron says the 6v starter will work fine on 12 Volt. If you still dont have enough cranking power you might try a trick that worked great on my uncles WD's. Most/all of them came with only two field coils in the starter, if you find another field housing with four field coils they really gain power( the engine has to slow down to idle:-). You may have to drill a new dowl pin hole to get it to line up right, but really makes a powerfull starter.
