Last August I was involved with a Christian aid project in Vanuatu ( I was fixing their tractors, others in the party were engaged on building work) One place we visited in our free time was an abandoned U.S. air base just outside of Luganville on the island of Santo. The plant life has all but taken over, the buildings have long since gone, but just standing on the broken surface of the main runway gave me a funny feeling of a place that had been full of life, you could almost hear those young men. We stood there, thought about them, thought about what could have been, silently got back on the bus and left. Don"t ever forget them.
