The below posts are right. If I remember right, it was about 87 or so when they finally got the 700r4's optimized. Every place I've read about 'em they say to look for the 87+ ones to rebuild.
That 25 bucks would be about right for a core price from a tranny shop. For all they know, the only useable parts in it are the case and the pan. Tranny shop I used to work in stripped out th350's all the time(since that was by far our biggest seller along with the Ford Taurus FWD transaxles), and threw away many of the parts inside lots of 'em due to wear. But go ahead and put it on craigslist anyway for 50 or 75 bucks...ya never know! Might be someone out there that can use it, and as they always say, any particular item is worth exactly what someone else is willing to pay for it.
