As for me, I'm happy, thankful, and feel very blessed every day I'm here to live in the USA.

Despite it's problems, it's one of the greatest places to live in the world and the standards of living have never been higher.

The average convenience store today provides goods and services that even kings and queens couldn't obtain before about 1930, much less every average Joe working for wages!

As for the illegals, I don't mind some of my tax dollars going to help them out. If you think things are tough in the USA, you ought to drive through some of the rural towns of Mexico and see how poor some of those areas are.

I don't know what to say or think when I see some "average citizen" making $50-$80-$100,000 per year railing about some illegal immigrant for sending $50 or $100 back to Mexico to support the folks back home. Or wanting to arrest some hard-working family man who is just trying to provide a better life for his family... Sort of makes me feel blue about human nature...

Besides, the Social Security benefits that are being paid on their behalf by employers contributes billions to the SS system that will never be paid back to the illegals... The anti-immigrant crowd never really mentions that fact.

As for ethanol being a joke - the Wright brother's probably had some neighbors laughing at their first airplane, too... But it was a start! And we are going to have to find SOME alternative to fossil fuels!

Personally, I think atomic energy is looming large, and I may encourage my kids to study in that field when they get to college age. I sure don't agree that natural gas and coal are the "only hope".

I agree 1000% that the USA needs to get it's spending under control and budget balanced and debt paid off.

I think that is one of the biggest fundamental weakness of our style of government - every congressman has a vested interest in taking as much money home to their district as possible - because it helps them get re-elected. None of them individually have much incentive to try to reign in the spending...

Just my three cents worth...
Howard

Today's Featured Article - 12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition. ... [Read Article]
