Hey Buckanddeere. Starting was not a problem. Tractor started and ran great, but the generator needed rebuilt and I wanted to eleminate a lot of ugly wiring. Exciting the alternator is not a problem either. Open up the throttle one time and it stays excited until it is shut down. Postitive ground is much more efficient than negative, 12 volt batteries are easier to come by, all the ugly wires are gone, lights are much brighter. If twelve volts weren't better they'd still be making six volt systems........rw
