Hey - time to call the cops on me. Most of our family vehicles have no air bags - and the ones with anti-lock brakes - got unhooked and are going to stay that way.
Show me one verired study from any reputable source that shows a saftey increase with the use of anti-lock brakes.
I can certainly understand somebody wanting every safefty feature possible for their loved ones. I also understand that just about all the safety equipment is a trade off. One example being the many small kids that have been killed by air bags.
Read the fatality figures from the 1950s/1960s for teenage drivers and compare them to now with all the new gadgets. Not a huge difference. New cars have more safety features - also tend to get driven faster since they are so powerful and handle so well. Much is a trade-off.
I was recently reading some stats. for various states in the U.S. One example is Nebraska.
1982-total deaths from car crashes - 261 2002-total deaths from car crashes - 307 2005-total deaths from car crashes - 276
I suspect not many of those 1982 cars had air-bags or anti-lock brakes. Best safety feature - is common-sense.
