If you go new, probably a MTD derivitive with an 18 hp Briggs with an oil filter (lot of models don't have them) and at least a 46 inch deck and hydrostatic drive would be a good way to go. There's a lot to be said for a decent used Deere or Cub, especially if there's a dealer near you. Main thing is, you will want at least 46 in of width no matter what you do, if your time means anything.
