You can sometimes do more harm to the patient by lifting the tractor than by leaving him there. Reason: that piece of equipment has cut off blood flow to the pinned extremity...by removing the constriction, and allowing blood to flow to the extremity, you have deprived the body core of the blood, (and the blood pressure) that is keeping him alive..He may simply be in compensatory shock. Many times, you may have an alert, verbal patient that will crash on you immediately upon extrication. Your well intentioned action could actually be the one that kills him.
