In the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 16, Verses 13-18 (Holy Bible, King James Version, 1611) Jesus describes the foundation of His Church. The Catholics use this text to establish Peter as the first pope. My belief is the living Christ is the head of His Church and any other interpretations or claims are for the convenience of man. Even the King James Version of the Bible was a translation of the Catholic Bible to English for the use of King James.
