Yeah, they have some models prone to this it seems, I have a 150 sitting in my yard waiting for a trans and those front radius arms were heavily scaled with rust before it was parked, one small area of the frame started flaking too, have to keep em in a dry area, ground stays moist under it, keep moving er in a different spot. Funny though, mine does not have the rust problems in any body panels, kept er out of the salt and cleaned, the 1996 models seem to have galvanized or otherwise protected body panels.
Rangers have the same trouble with spring shackle brackets, they'll rust right off, have one of those in the yard, started to flake heavily, but the first round of that, scale it all off clean it up a bit and use POR-15, from behind the cab to the end of the frame, though the frame does not rust like these other components.
Junk dealer near me says nothing lasts long in the yard, few years and they're almost not worth crushing.
Sinking feeling when something comes apart like that, happened to a group of us after a concert, headed back home down the highway, buddy needed to stop for some skoal, we get off the highway and turn into the lot and before we could get to a parking stall the wheel flopped right off the honda accord, better there then at 65 MPH on the highway ! To top it off, AAA never even arrived, had to call for a cab and pile in with a bunch of other people just to get home, hours later should have been home at 11pm, got home as the sun came up.
