We had the same thing happen on the wifes 2002 Trailblazer. It did put her in the ditch, but no damage was done. The dealer tried to charge us for a new pump since the truck was just out of warranty. That did not happen. When it was all said and done, the dealer made us a sweet deal on a new Durango. Power steering pump shafts do not just break, and GM knows that, but they still won't admit that there is a problem.
