They elected his father to several terms as senator, but finally voted him out when he took political stands totally different from what his constituants wanted. Brother Al paid close attention and became "a sail in the wind of political popular opinion" and was very good at it - enough so that he got elected to office several years in a row, having convinced the people that, unlike his father, he truly represented them.
