Some who read this may remember the questions I have been asking about my Farmall 400 and related issues with it.
I decided to fix the voltage regulator I was having issues with. I am quite proud of myself considering this is a pretty much replace versus repair society anymore. Actually what made the difference was it was just easier to repair the wire connection. The hard part of that whole thing was figuring out what wire and where it went but I did it. Saved $50 bucks on the new 10SI by not using it.
Anyway, I let the tractor run for a half hour just to see if the guage was doing what it was supposed to (it didn't at first, it was sticking in places and there was condensation on the inside of the glass) but it is working now.).
Cross that off the list!
So I come back out (after the 30 minutes, tractor is still running), and granted it is about 95 outside and sitting in the sun, I see the vent for the PTO gear housing is dripping oil out. Nice little puddle, maybe a cup. Taking the hydraulic cylinder off so I can change the fluid was on the list but just got bumped up. Any idea why it would be overflowing? Never did it before.
My hydraulic issues continue. I have to replace my hyd. line going to the power steering because it wiggles and leaks a tiny bit at the end that screws into the pipe fitting next to the pump. Pretty sure that's not supposed to happen. I have to bleed the pump occasionally because it will seem to freeze so I assume that is where the air is coming in.
The groaning is coming from somewhere near the battery box. I suspect it has something to do with a valve since it only does it when their is low pressure and lowering the hitch. Going up without the throttle at half or so and the hitch barely moves up. One of the lines going into the cylinder was pinched so I got that freed and tied out of the way. I haven't been able to figure out which line it is, up or down. I still haven't had any luck finding a pressure tester.

Today's Featured Article - Grain Threshing in the Early 40's - by Jerry D. Coleman. How many of you can sit there and say that you have plowed with a mule? Well I would say not many, but maybe a few. This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
