The Ford 601 series tractors are good machines. Shoot for what your wanting to spend it could be rebuilt and then you have what you need and haven't spent any more then what you want to spend. Depending on the model 601 you have some are better then the others but either way a 601 is a good old tractor. Now if you feel you just need think you need to get another tractor I would say another Ford maybe a 661 or 861 which have live PTO. Oh by the way 90% of safety on tractors isn't the machine its the person driving the machine
