I don't know either, but I shore hope ya figger it out and let us know what it was. I have the same problem with my 96' Dakota with the same engine. Well, not the SAME engine - but one just like it! She's got a whoppin' 67,000 miles on her. I've done the same as you what with changin' out the exhaust. I pretty much just gave up and turned up the radio...but now that quit workin' too!
