Alright, it looks like my previous post was incomplete.
I am not here to dispute the definition of horsepower, torque or work. It has been my observation, that these guys are replacing gas motors with smaller displacement diesels. So there should be no suprise they are getting better MPG. I just wanted to point out the torque produced by the smaller diesel is probably comparable to the gas motor they are replacing. At least that way you would get a vehicle the almost performs the same except for acceleration- which would be much slower.
Hence my statement, if you want to go fast from 0 to blinding speed, you"ll need your engine to make HP. If you want to tow, you"ll want your engine built to make torque.
