A flow restricter is a check valve with a hole in the check ball. going up the pressure pushes the ball off its seat, and you get full flow up. going down the ball seats, and fluid can only get out slowly, through the hole in the ball. the purpose being that if a line breaks the box will come down slowly, instead of slapping down with a bang and killing someone. You can get adjustable ones, or ones with fixed openings, in several sizes. BRAND hydraulics, has a selection of them, fixed or adjustable, in different sizes of pipe thread. BRAND is a manufacturer, you have to find a dealer, I think BAILEYS, or SURPLUS CENTER has them. Probably BAUM IRON in Omaha also, amung others.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
