The only thought that really crossed my mind is that this tractor may have been, for some reason, a factory reman tractor. Especially with the S-O-S. I think what they would do with those tractors was grind the original numbers off and then restamp with new numbers once the reman was done... They may have then restamped the original UNIT code in a slightly different manner to denote it's original assembly date and then a new code and serial number to denote it's final buyoff date. This is purely speculation on my part, but I do wonder... This was basically done with the 6000 series tractors as the first many that were produced were unproven junk and they (Ford) collected most of them up for shame's sake.
