Ron, I suggest that you research the geotextile fabric that has come on the market in recent years. Your ag extension department should have info as they recommend the product around cattle working chutes and waterers. Supposedly this product prevents many of the problems associated with water/mud. I have no idea as to the price but from the postings it appears that you are going to have a sizeable investment in the base material and possibly using the fabic could have merit.
