The only new tractors my dad ever bought in his life were a 970 and a 1175 case, back in the middle 70's. They were both still pulling strong when I left the farm in 89'. Dad retired in 05' and they were still going. Sold them both at an auction. My favorite was the 970, with the power shift (never had any transmission issues). Man that thing could pull! Would pull a 5 bottom plow thru black dirt in north central iowa no sweat! Another thing that I recall was they were much more fuel efficient than say a JD 4020. My 2 cents worth. Good-Luck in your choice!
