when i was looking to buy a tractor, i was looking new, i went to JD and NH and was asking them where the different models were made. that really through the salesman for a loop. took them some digging to find out where. and when i found out the models i were interested in wernt made state side, i said no thanks.
when i go shopping with my wife, i purposely look to see where it was either made or assemblied. if it boils down to a few dollars difference, i will pay more for a USA made item. and when i find a store, like the disney store, where every item i grabbed said made in china, i stopped shopping there completely. no idea if this even matters to a retail outlet, but i try.
