Form A Gasket has its place.The trouble is its place is probably not in your tractor unless you know what you are doing.If you are talking about Silicon gasket sealer,its fine to smear a thin layer on a paper gasket to help seal it.You dont want to use any more than you need to,just a thin layer.Form A Gasket is a different kind of stuff supposedly to make a gasket out of and it might work,but its not necessary to replace a gasket like you are talking about with Form A Gasket when all you need is some gasket material to cut a new gasket out of,then coat lightly with silicon put together and if you have a lot of silicon that squeezes out,wipe it off so it wont get inside the motor.
On the hone it makes some difference which kind you have.If you have one with 3 stones you want to use penetrating oil,squirting on the hone stones while you run it up and down the cylinder kind of fast but not going out the bottom or top.More or less you do the same with the kind that has balls of abrasive on the end of nylon strings kind of like a brush,called a dingleberry hone,you squirt penetrating oil as you push it up and down the cylinder.With that kind of hone it doesnt take as long and it looks good if you do it right.Other things can be used besides penetrating oil,solvent,alcohol,maybe other stuff,but a can of WD 40 OR Liquid Wrench will do a V8 usually for me with a little left over.
