Perhaps it should come as no surprise that the Germans actually studied this during WWll in the concentration camps and had a formula for the ideal mix of obese/skinny people that used the least fuel to cremate. I think I may have read that in "The Arms of Krupp". Personally I think cremation makes things emotionally neater than seeing a corpse. It used to be cheaper by far but fuel prices may have changed that. Embalmed bodies leach embalming fluid into the ground water near cemeterys.
