as others said, you can copy the hydraulics on augers that come with a downforce supplying cylinder- but with sharp bits and moist earth my auger will pick the nose of the tractor up.
another consideration is a bind in the driveshaft...if the shaft binds and won't compress easily, it's slow going digging your hole. lent my digger to a "freind" who returned it with a bent shaft, it never dug well after that until I replaced the shaft.
