I have found no real advantage to gel cells. DO NOT USE A DEEP CYCLE BATTERY FOR A STARTING APPLICATION- it's not made for that, it doesn't have the cranking amps needed for that application. Deep cycles are made to allow for a long, continuous low draw...like lights in a motorhome or a trolling motor on a boat. For starting, you want a battery that will dump all its juice at once to the starter...
