Cooling systems work best when flow is controlled. Coolant needs to stay in the radiator long enough to cool down adaquately. Coolant needs to stay in the engine until it reaches operating temp. SOME engines will run cold (cool) with no thermostat. Some run hot. Only a very few benefit any at all with no thermostat, and that's usually only in certain conditions. Also to look at, make certain the radiator CAP is in good condition. Cooling systems operate under pressure. Coolant will tend to boil quicker if pressure is vented prematurely. I've had several trucks/cars/tractors over the years that tended to heat up beyond "normal" range that were fixed with a new (sometimes higher pressure rating) radiator cap.
