The US sat on it's as$ for 2-1/2 years at the outset of WWII because it 'wasn't their war' while Britain, France, Canada, Australia, NewZeland and South Africa prosocuted that war against Germany. That, and that alone held the line for democracy in the world, not America... so you need not claim too much there. There is no doubt that the war could not have been won without US forces. Absolutely no doubt. There is also no doubt that the greatest price paid in that war was paid by the Russians, by a large margin. Their dead bought the time that allowed you fellas to get your a$ses in gear.
As far as all your other noble activities throughout the world, that's mostly true to an extent. It's also mostly true of all other industrialized nations in the world. You're not alone, not by a long streatch.
