I've got a bit of an Air Force story as well. I worked in air movments for a while. This is a special duty, looking after any visiting aircraft. Late one afternoon I took a tow tractor and generator over to the vehicle section for re-fueling. The operator filled both at the same time with two pumps, which I thought was very efficent and professional (but they probably just wanted to close up and go home). Anyway, later that night, we used the generator to launch a C-130. Every now and then, a bunch of red sparks would issue forth from the generator exhaust. This in turn caused some panic type body language to issue forth from the loadmaster, and I detected a bit of a flurry of movement on the flight deck as well. We just gave them the old thumbs up 'she's right mate, happens all the time' attitude. It was the quickest C-130 launch I ever saw. We took the generator up to the machanics the next day and (you guessed it), petrol in the diesel.
