The Founders' ideas as expressed in the Constitution and Bill of Rights are NOT outdated. The Founders' ideas as generally expressed in many other documents of their time find less direct application to our situation. When this country was founded, it included slavery, no vote for women, and many felt they had the right to seceed if they wished.

An all-powerful central government IS to be feared, but not always for the reasons I'm suspecting you might put at the top of the list. I'm upset about some of the trends and directions our government has taken, but not because of the concerns you expressed earlier about "politically correctness." I get concerned about giant corporations being bailed out with tax $$ that came from you and me, and corporate welfare in general. I'm upset about the lack of oversight of some Wall Street actions that have led to the current economic mess. I'm concerned about government intrusion into privacy and circuventing the FISA law. I'm concerned about a lackluster President putting "signing statements" on legislation designed to curtail abuses of power by the Executive Branch. At the same time, I'm pragmatic enough to know that we'll have to bend in some directions we don't like in an effort to keep the ecomomy and the American Dream from breaking completely.
I'm not a single-issue voter, and I try to support the initiatives and directions that I believe are for the greater good. We might disagree on some of those issues, but that doesn't make one of us less of an American than the other, and it's the reason we have elections.

Today's Featured Article - Product Review: Black Tire Paint - by Staff. I have been fortunate in that two of my tractors have had rear tires that were in great shape when I bought the tractor. My model "H" even had the old style fronts with plenty of tread. My "L" fronts were mismatched Sears Guardsman snow tires, which I promptly tossed. Well, although these tires were in good shape as far as tread was concerned, they looked real sad. All were flat, but new tubes fixed that. In addition to years and years of scuffing and fading, they had paint splattered on ... [Read Article]
