Still grinding away. About an inch of rain friday stopped us for a day. Sunday was cold, muddy and wind gusts of nearly 50mph. This morning was breezy, near freezing and snow flurries. Tonights low is forecast to be in the mid 20's. Cool but dry weather is on tap for the rest of the week so progress should continue.
Like everywhere else the corn is far wetter than it should be this time of the year. Our biggest hold up now is how fast we can get the corn dry and hauled away so we can pick more. We are luckier than many with the corn a little under 20% moisture and 4 bin dryers. Many people have either not started or picked very little of their corn. We have less than 200 acres left to go but we will be hung up waiting on the dryers again by wednesday night. Looks like we will finish picking corn the first couple of days of November, this will be the first time in a decade.
Even the trees are late taking on their fall colors.
The corn looks a little worse for the wear after yesterday but for the most part is still standing.
Nice to get a little break just sitting in the seat and watching. With the heat on it would be pretty easy to take a little nap.
Today reminded me of what is to come, winter. Took this picture about 3 this afternoon. Sure is a far cry from the beautiful weather of just a week ago. bill

From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
