Jason, at slow cranking the mags never gonna fire UNLESS the mags spring wind n trip impulse assembly is working. If you rotate the mags drive cup assembly the correct direction in which it normaly turns (or if its on tractor correct and is turning as it should as flywheel is turned), each 180 degress there should be a loud distinct sharp IS YOURS DOING THAT?????????????? If not post back for tips regarding that......
If the impulse is working but still no spark theres a couple issues (among 50 other things lol) on those C Mags that could come into play. One is the lil grounding tabs on the back of the mags points/condensor mount plate need to make good electrical contact and some new wico C points spring tabs can ground out against the mount post. An ohmmeter or continuity tester can be used to easily insure good points grounding and corresponding opening as the points open and close. To be safe in the meantime be sure they are clean and gapped correct and indeed open and close as they should.
Its possible even new condensors are bad if you still have an old one try that maybe along with the points being clean n oil/residue free and that the points and condensor wiring and the coil is wired correct. Theres usually 2 lil grounding wires from the coil, one for primary one for secondary and they atatch n wire under a mount clip.
Thers a ton of things that could be said abut that mag I give 90 min seminars about them at JD shows but we cant cover it all here, just start with points and wiring and grounding issues abd if shes snapping or not for now and we can go from there. Theres also the potential cap and rotor problems if all else fails.

I really hate to see a good tractor being treated that way, but not being able to start it without a 30 minute point filing ritual every time contributed to its demise. If it would just start when I turn the key, then I would use it more often. In addition to a bad case of old age, most of the tractor's original electrical system was simply too unreliable to keep. The main focus of this page is to show how I upgr
