M Nut said: (quoted from post at 09:46:30 11/03/08) I had some extra fuel stored in a 55 gal. drum outside. I noticed the other day when I went to move it that there were about 4 pin size holes in the top of it. I didn't know that when I put the fuel in there, and now it has sat outside for quite a while with water collecting in the top when it rains. I know water sinks to the bottom in gas, but what would it do in diesel fuel? Is there any way to try and use this fuel, or is it better not to?
Thanks for the advice.
It is probably not necessary to say so, but be sure not to agitate before you try to pump off the good fuel. When agitated, the water will mix with the fuel and takes awhile to settle out again. It is no fun dealing with a tractor with water in the diesel..bad experience. Far better to throw away a little than deal with that.
