Well, it is a matter of history really. You need to look at the dates, and then what was happening in the US at those crucial times. What era are most collectors in? Tractors from the 1920's, 30's and 40's, and somewhat into the 50's.
That era was dominated by the dust bowl, the great depression, WWII, and finally the cold war. Opportunities for negroes on the farm during that time was very limited. It was a time of low pay, hard work, dust, etc. Most left the farm with few pleasant memories.
Survey the white collectors out there. How many were overleveraged during the 1980's with 20% interest, went broke, lost everything including the wife and the family farm, and now they are trying to restore an ole IH Cyclo planter.
I would think that folks collect things that bring back fond memories.
I spent 15 years and lost my two front teeth working on a danged ole Gleaner F and I'll be danged if you will see me fixing one up to drive in a parade ( sorry Allen NE).
