"The top 25% of wage earners pay 86% of the total tax load."
I've been doing some research on this statement. All I can figure is somebodies pulling the wool over somebodies eyes, like the rich can say they're doing the poor some kind of favor or get the attention away from them not paying any taxes. First, what the government is calling rich is anybody making over $104,000. That ain't rich in anybodies books. Second, in the populous there are obviously more people in the middle income bracket that any other by a huge margin. I call the middle income those people that are earning $20-200K. Even the poor pay taxes. If you make 10K you pay on about $3000 after standard deductions. And the rich have the same standard deduction, so you're not paying on the $7000? either. "if your making 30 to 40 grand, you're not paying any Federal taxes anyway" Don't know what tax code you go by. These are the same tax rates for the past twenty years with minor variations. 2008 Tax Brackets Tax Rate Single Married Filing Jointly 10% Not over $8,025.. Not over $16,050 15% $8,025 - $32,550.. $16,050 - $65,100 25% $32,550 - $78,850.. $65,100 - $131,450 28% $78,850 - $164,550.. $131,450 - $200,300 33% $164,550 - $357,700.. $200,300 - $357,700 35% Over $357,700.. Over $357,700
So if you know something different than this, just spit it out.
