Dont know if this trips your trigger either, but if you make it up to Pioneer Village in Minden, there is the Great Platte River Archway Monument that goes across the interstate just east of the Kearney exit. Highway 2 that goes from Grand Island all the way up toward Alliance is a pretty scenic route out toward the Black Hills or Wyoming. It will take you through the Sandhills of NE. I guess the best advice I can give is to stay off of the interstate as much as possible.
