I used to use an 8n to plow snow, with the dearborn 6' wide blade. Without chains, I would barely be able to get up my drive way (somewhat steep though) with chains I could push 10" of light snow up the driveway. With chains and weight, I could push 2.5' of snow, pretty remarkable.
I think with the 1000lbs you will add, you will probaby be alright to stay on the driveway, but if you wind up plowing out the woodshed or something a little more challenging you might want them.
Look for used ones, I got my set then for $50 dollars, doesn't take much really.
