That seems like a pretty odd assertion. In their day, IH typically led the way in sales, so maybe they had a preponderance (When's the last time ya saw that word on a tractor board?) of tractors in the field. But there were more than one shade of green, another shade or two of red, and a lot of orange, gray, blue and yaller tractors out there, too.
rrlund makes a good point down below. The green company I assume your are referring made and still makes some very fine tractors, but also has done an excellent job of putting their colors and labels on tractors made by all kinds of folks these days -- they excel at marketing, which was, in large part, the weak spot that was the undoing of the company I assume you refer to with the red tractors. If they had simply given farmers the option of buying a 3-point OR a Fast Hitch for their tractors, and licensed out the production of Fast Hitches and the implements for them to other companies, they might actually have overcome some of their other difficulties and still be around.
