The proverbial Cockshutt block, what you describe is a common occurance from what I've seen in the past, something going on behind the scenes, or who knows, plenty others out there, never get hung up on one like that.
After work one evening, decided to head over to a TGIF/Friday's, to have a few beers and watch the baseball game. Quiet place at the bar, few beers, good game and then head home, never was a lush, and of course having to drive used to be 1 beer/hour was safe for the BAC count.
The barstool next to me slides out and someone sits down, thinking to myself, yep always a guy with my luck, lots of other spots open, why here etc. :), oh well, then I glance over and I'm like Ralph Kramden, homana homana homana ! ....... very attractive, seen her on TV, some cable access program of hers and in of the local flyers, she owned and managed a local health spa. I'm the type to respect ones space, so I kind of pretend to not notice her for a bit, small talk later, but thats it, figuring, she's probably doing the same thing as I, day is over time for a beer or what have you, who needs some annoying guy salivating over you etc.
Out of nowhere, some guy comes over sits down on her right and tries to leverage his way into the situation, I just keep minding my own business, granted she was very attractive and a very nice mannered gal, kind of hard not to notice that. Impressive person all the way around. This guy was just off the hook with his pick up "schtick" really pushing the high pressure sales, and I'm thinking this poor gal comes in for a drink and some down time, probably not wanting to deal with this. It's really funny what people do, this goes on until 11 PM, I've kept quiet mostly, little sarcasm and humor, finally the guy after all this asks for her number etc. She's like not interested, tries to squirm out of the situation, he's like (as if they knew each other for years) really pushing the ticket, "We need to talk" "can we talk?" he says, he's nervous and uneasy about himself, was drinking from an empty glass, I said " hows that air taste?" LOL She got a kick out of that one later. The guy was falling apart, drinking from an empty glass and acting like a stalker ! So she finally obliges and talks to him off to the side, and finally gets rid of him after hours of being annoyed with this, then comes back over. Wow, we both had a good laugh, I said, you're in here like me, just want to catch the game, little down time, yep.... I said I was thinking of asking you out, but the nervous schlep of a bar toad kind of ruined that, hogged all the time so I kept quiet. What was up with that guy I said, desperate or what, you were not expecting this I'll bet. She said heres the number, give me a call sometime, I said I'll walk you to your car and make sure no one follows you. funny... thinking to myself, in life you just have to play it cool and have lots of poise.
Who knows, this guy could have been off his rocker, some strange ones out there that is for sure.

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
