I think my neighbor was looking for $130/ton here, really nice 2nd cut leafy orchard grass/timothy, no weeds - round bales around 1200 lbs, I believe, well I loaded several truckloads for him, but that was August think they were about that weight, he bought a brand new JD round baler - silage special whatever that is, have some photos and a video of it. Small squares, $3 picked up at the barn, $4 or more delivered, horse quality hay, most alfalfa stays with the dairy farms, don't see a lot of it for sale, you would have to make arrangements up front with a farmer if you wanted some alfalfa.
I sold some mulch quality hay, bales we did not want to feed to horses, $1 picked up off my truck, went fast and could be fed to other livestock.
We were lucky, the rain finally stopped in early August, if you got your 1st cut off the field, 2nd cut was really nice and the weather gave us lots of time to get that in, prior to it was a 3 day window, after it stopped, you might get a good soaker every 2 weeks. That 2nd cut was impressive looking hay, some of those fields will be houses soon, hate seeing that, at least I can say I worked in them too, like my neighbor has all his life.
