Unions are a cancer that is killing American manufacturing. HONDA & Toy make better autos with non-union American labor. I work for a company that has had to shut down union plants and consolidate to non-union plants to stay competitive. Without non-union labor my company couldn't survive.
It's not just the exorbitant wages and benefits; it takes more union workers to build autos because everyone has a limited job description. Non union auto workers pitch in to do whatever needs to be done (even janitorial). My company's non union plants have evolved through the years and have the best world class technology. The reluctant union plants are still using 50 yr old technology and are a drag on the company (and are being shut down).
Union greed (strike) is the reason I attribute to International Harvester going belly up. A cabinet manufacturer in Louisville ( Scheirich) was driven to bankruptcy by a union strike. There are many examples. They drive companies to bankrupcy for the benefit of a few.
Unions and strikes worked in the old days before global competition. Today they are just a disease that must be avoided (or eradicated if already afflicted) if one wants to survive.
