'GM cars made in Canada by union workers are $1800.00 less labor burden than US- the Canadian government does the health care for a 17.5VAT on car instead of company insurance by union contract.'
I'm not quite sure I follow that statement. Are you implying that there is a 17.5% tax levied on cars that are exported? I don't beleive that's true. Our health system is funded mostly by the provinces who collect levy a sales tax at the point of purchase. That's often in the 10% range dependingon the province, and in some provinces there is no slaes tax. There is also a federal sales tax (GST) levied at 5% presently.. and in some provinces a combined provicial/federal (HST) which is 13% 'here'. That's basically what pays for our healthcare system. It's sompletly removed the health burden from every employer in this country with the exception of dental/drug plans. It may well represent 1800 dollars per vehicle to the company... mabey more.
