John M - I've had a JD 50V for many years. It's little on the heavy side but it's a good, reliable old saw.
The 50V manual and gas cap both say to use 20:1 fuel mix. However I find it's kinda smokey on 20:1. So for the last 10 or so years I've run it on 40:1 (which my other saws, weedwhacker, backpack blower, etc all specify) - the engine is holding up fine. I also run a gallon or two gas from my boat (50:1) thru it at the end of each boating season with no problems.
Incidentally I cut 8 - 10 face cord with the 50V every winter. And I always use good quality (usually Castrol) 2-stroke oil....
