It's kind of a cultural thing. In some parts of the country and that is just what people do.
Own'n 10 guns is not being obsessed. That is just a good start. Some people around here own 10 guns of their own before they get out of high school.
The reasons for own'n guns is about like old tractors. Some people have them to use to put food on the table, colecting, or as an investment. I feel the curent rush on AR type guns now is out of fear and those wanting to make a quick buck. When the assault (or anything looking mean) weapon ban was in place bre-ban AR were selling for over twice what post bans were going for on the used market. While $1100+ seems like a high price to pay for a gun, if the new powers that be put a new, permanat ban in place they will be worth a whole lot more that what they were a few years ago. While if the goverment tries to take away firearms, they will be priceless to have.
